The May / June issue of Midwest Living Magazine is out and I’m so happy to be a part of this issue! At the end of last summer, I booked this job and it was one of my favorite moments of the year. The story about True North Basecamp in Cuyuna, MN is a part of a larger story about the best cabins / destinations in the Midwest!

For this feature, I was lucky enough to rally some friends who love to mountain bike and spend the night up at True North Basecamp. We had such a lovely 24 hours - Jonny and Nate rode hard over and over for us to get the right shots, Andy flew a drone (photos of those to come) and Liz even went paddle boarding in rather chilly water! Overall it was a big success and I wanted to share the spread and some fun outtakes with you all!

Mpls / St Paul Magazine | 2019 Best of Restaurants

I am SO excited and SO proud of the March issue of Minneapolis / St. Paul Magazine! This month features the 2019 Best Restaurants and as always, we were thrilled to be a part of this story. Fifty restaurants are mentioned in this package, but we photographed six for the feature. This included The Lynhall, Café Alma, Union Kitchen, The Grand Cafe, Lat 14 and In Bloom. We are personally big fans of all these restaurants, so it was a pleasure to create these images that the magazine used in such a big way!

Diana Scanlon worked along side us to style the food in many of these images and her pink gloves were a theme in our behind the scene photos! She’s also the genius behind how we got that gold fork to look so perfect on the cover! Of course, the MSP Art team of Kim Jackson and Mike Norseng also played an incredible role in the design and ideas of the feature! I love how these images turned out and hope you do, too!

The March issue of Twin Cities Business Magazine is here! This month’s cover story features Osman Mussa, a first-year industrial engineering student at Dunwoody College of Technology. I found this story incredibly interesting - it covers what modern manufacturing jobs look like and also the shortage of talent in a booming industry.

When we walked into Dunwoody, I had an idea of what I hoped this cover shot would be, but I didn’t know who our subject would exactly be or the environment we might be in. When we met Osman, he inspired our entire team with his story. His strong, yet calm, confidence in front of the camera was also exactly what I was hoping to capture. Students like Osman and those we met that day at Dunwoody are the future of manufacturing and they are seizing the opportunities in front of them! Martina x The Restaurant Project

About a year and a half ago, I had coffee with Chef Daniel del Prado. He told me about the ideas behind his first breakout restaurant, which was to be called Martina. I left that meeting feeling very inspired by the team of people he was bringing together and how their vision was lead by creativity.

This was a perfect project for our team over at The Restaurant Project and over a couple of days, we harnessed the most badass light to make some amazing images happen. It’s always so exciting for me to bring a vision to life, but when the light works out like it did these days, it truly is pure magic!

Needless to say, Martina has been a big hit and we’re so proud of seeing their hard work pay off. Below are some of my favorite images from our shoot with Martina and The Restaurant Project!

Bill George x BB&T Leadership Institute

This fall, I was asked to photograph Bill George. Bill is a best-selling author, a Harvard Business School professor and widely known as the former CEO of Medtronic. His portrait was taken for the first-ever magazine for the BB&T Leadership Institute. It was a true pleasure to spend some time with Bill and I love how bold the design of this publication is around the photography. It really makes this portrait shine!

We’re kicking off the year 2019 with a fantastic new cover + feature for the MSP Weddings Spring / Summer issue! We collaborated with the amazing team at Mpls / St Paul magazine for this fun spread that just screams spring! Girl Friday created the super-fun backdrop and the space at Studio 125 provided the perfect environment for this bridal shoot. Our goal was to create some gorgeous images that focused both on showing personality and a breath of fresh air to inspire brides! We also had a dream team for this project. I love taking a portrait of someone. It’s a moment and time in their life. I also love the challenge of making a picture that truly shows who that person is. Liam James Doyle has been an assistant on our team for a good few years now, but even more than that, he is an incredible photojournalist. Mark my words - this man is going to do incredibly big things in the world and I can’t wait to see what that is! When he asked me to photograph him to update his portrait, of course I said yes. I absolutely love the energy of how these turned out and to me, they are perfect!

Brightwater Clothing & Gear | 2019 Look Book

Last March I hopped in a car and drove up to Ely Lake, MN with a bunch of friends to photograph a project for Bill Damberg and his store, Brightwater Clothing. Brightwater is a fantastically curated store in Excelsior, Minnesota and for this shoot, we travelled to Bill’s family cabin to set the scene. This shoot was magic and here’s why - to be honest, there wasn’t a lot of production. There wasn’t a lot of thought, but there was intention. The idea was simple - lets get some rad people together and they can all do what they enjoy best. Lets document a brilliant day on the lake and see what happens.

What happened was one of the most organic and beautiful shoots I had all year and I’m so happy to say that the 2018 / 2019 Winter Look Book for Brightwater is now live! Below are some of my favorite spreads and some fun behind the scenes!

The December issue of Minneapolis / St. Paul Magazine is on newsstands now and y’all should run and get it! We’re so happy to have another cover for this publication and the issue features the Best New Restaurants of 2018! For this story, we divided and conquered the restaurants with the magazine’s talented photographer, Caitlin Abrams. We were given Colita, Popol Vuh and Eastside to photograph and I love how the images turned out!

This year’s list is pretty wonderful! Below are the pages that feature our work and there is so much more to this story in the magazine! Big thanks to Marco Zappia, Morgan Lent, Daniel Del Prado, José Alarcon and Jamie Malone for being our amazing subjects!

American Express | Minneapolis Digital Campaign!

Some new work we photographed this summer for American Express has started to roll out! The images feature various shops & restaurants in Minneapolis - along with a shoutout to our northern cabins! Melissa Hesse and I both photographed this digital campaign and it was so fun to document some of our favorite spots in our city! Big thanks to Spoon and Stable, The Foundry Home Goods, Rise Bagel Co. and The Walker Art Museum for being a part of the shoot!
