I truly love taking portraits. As a photographer, I have always been intrigued with people, spaces, color, shapes and of course light. Whenever I go into a portrait session, especially on location, I never know exactly what I am going to create, but my goal is to make an image that I am proud of! There are always the ‘safe’ images that my clients need, but I always ask myself, “How can I push the limits here?”

That’s exactly what I was able to do with my friends Peter and Linda, owners of Saturday Dumpling Co. Along with Jake Johnson they officially announced their newest restaurant concept, Jujube, which will be coming to Minneapolis fall of 2026. The portraits we created were for their press release, but I also took some time to capture everyone individually as well. The image of Peter and Linda above is one of my all-time-favorite portraits I think I’ve ever taken. I love the color blocking, the composition, the strength and forward thinking we feel when looking at this image. Everything works from the shapes to lines to expressions - it’s fantastic!

We took these images using all natural light, right outside of the building of their new location. Below are a few more outtakes of these spectacular folks!

I love these updated portraits for Sarah McKee! Sarah is the powerhouse behind Realty by Mckee and I have had the pleasure of photographing Sarah at various points in her career. These images are beautiful, playful and strong - and I love the mix of natural light and a fun poppy flash!

Twin Cities Business Magazine | March 2019

The March issue of Twin Cities Business Magazine is here! This month’s cover story features Osman Mussa, a first-year industrial engineering student at Dunwoody College of Technology. I found this story incredibly interesting - it covers what modern manufacturing jobs look like and also the shortage of talent in a booming industry.

When we walked into Dunwoody, I had an idea of what I hoped this cover shot would be, but I didn’t know who our subject would exactly be or the environment we might be in. When we met Osman, he inspired our entire team with his story. His strong, yet calm, confidence in front of the camera was also exactly what I was hoping to capture. Students like Osman and those we met that day at Dunwoody are the future of manufacturing and they are seizing the opportunities in front of them! Martina x The Restaurant Project

About a year and a half ago, I had coffee with Chef Daniel del Prado. He told me about the ideas behind his first breakout restaurant, which was to be called Martina. I left that meeting feeling very inspired by the team of people he was bringing together and how their vision was lead by creativity.

This was a perfect project for our team over at The Restaurant Project and over a couple of days, we harnessed the most badass light to make some amazing images happen. It’s always so exciting for me to bring a vision to life, but when the light works out like it did these days, it truly is pure magic!

Needless to say, Martina has been a big hit and we’re so proud of seeing their hard work pay off. Below are some of my favorite images from our shoot with Martina and The Restaurant Project!

I love taking a portrait of someone. It’s a moment and time in their life. I also love the challenge of making a picture that truly shows who that person is. Liam James Doyle has been an assistant on our team for a good few years now, but even more than that, he is an incredible photojournalist. Mark my words - this man is going to do incredibly big things in the world and I can’t wait to see what that is! When he asked me to photograph him to update his portrait, of course I said yes. I absolutely love the energy of how these turned out and to me, they are perfect!

Da Bomb Bath Fizzers

You might have heard of Isabel and Caroline Bercaw - they are the 'sisterpreneurs' behind the growing brand, Da Bomb Bath Fizzers. Isabel and Caroline are now 15 and 16 years old, but they started their company at the young age of 10 and 11. Their company now employs over 150 people and their products are in over 5000 stores - quite an accomplishment!

Since launching their company, Isabel and Caroline have grown a lot - both personally and professionally. It was time to update their image, along with some product photography and I was thrilled to be on board for this project. Together with our crew (Fatima Olive on hair & makeup and Judith Marilyn styling), we created a series of fun images that the girls will be able to use for their upcoming campaigns, social media and press requests! Here are some of our favorite images from the shoot!

Mpls / St. Paul Magazine // Citizen Style

For the September issue of Mpls / St. Paul magazine, I was asked to photograph a set of portraits for their fall fashion story. It turns out that I had a connection to all of the people, which made photographing this all the more special.

When it comes to photographing real people in a 'fashion' sense - I love to still make it feel real. I wanted the portraits to be authentic to who our subjects were and why they had been chosen to highlight their personal style.

I wanted to share some of my favorite outtakes and behind the scenes from this shoot, because the energy with all of our subjects was absolutely amazing! 2015 Design 100 // Mpls / St. Paul Home & Design Magazine

The Design 100 is one of my favorite stories to be a part of each year. It lives in the pages of Mpls / St Paul Home & Design magazine and I just always love how this turns out. The Design 100 is a story about the 100 best people, products and places that add style to home and design. This includes rad spaces, talented artists and a behind-the-scenes look at the making of a lot of our favorite products. Maybe I love this story so much, because it is about the artists and where their hustle comes from.

MSP Style Makers // September 2014

The month of September brings a new issue of MSP Magazine to the newsstands and I have been SO excited to share this for quite some time. I was asked to photograph the cover + feature story for the magazine and this turned out to be one of my most favorite projects of the year. In the magazine world, the 'September' issue is always usually centered around fashion and style. MSP chose to highlight real people, who influence the style in Minneapolis, for their issue this year. I must say - this was one room packed with powerful, successful and very creative individuals. Minneapolis always seems to constantly provide a city full of talent and I always feel so lucky that my job allows me to cross paths with many of these people. I often leave feeling very inspired. As for my crew, we pulled together our dream-team to make this happen! Special thanks to Flashlight Photo Rental, Romeny Chan and her crew for hair & makeup, Liz Gardner of MSP for art direction, design and styling, Liz Hardt for post production and Ali Kaplan of MSP for writing the article. This issue is special, because the cover is not one - but two pages! It's a gatefold cover that highlights all of the talented people in the feature. As for the individual portraits inside the magazine, we wanted to show every person's style, so we asked them to come along with their own belongings to be styled. My job was then to capture everyone's personalities - in one frame. Below are the spreads that are published in the issue, along with some of the behind-the-scene photos from our shoot!
