It’s safe to say 2026 didn’t start the way any of us expected. And still here we are, figuring it out as we go.
This year marks my 20th year in business, which feels surreal to say out loud. And honestly, it doesn’t feel like a typical milestone year. It feels like something else entirely!
The photography industry is shifting in real time. Technology keeps evolving, AI is entering the conversation, and clients are naturally curious about what that means. At the same time, budgets are tighter and costs are higher, something so many of us are navigating. It’s not necessarily bad, but it is different. And that difference feels significant.
Here in Minneapolis, this year also brought some unexpected challenges because of the Federal ICE occupation. A lot of productions—events, corporate, editorial—paused or moved elsewhere, and we felt that ripple effect. Like many small businesses, I had to make some tough calls to keep things moving.
These days, the studio is supported by an incredible group of contractors —people I trust deeply, who are wildly talented and ready to create. And on my end, I’ve stepped back into a more hands-on role again, a bit of a one-woman show in many ways. It’s a shift, but also something I know how to do!
I’ve been taking a lot of time to reflect and think about why I love being a photographer. What parts of this work do I love so deeply and want to hold onto - and what parts have I outgrown or accomplished? What are my values? What’s working in 2026 and what is not?
I assure you, I’m not even close to knowing all of these answers, but I have found some clarity!
Somewhere along the way, things started to feel like a constant push, faster, more, always on. Often for a fleeting moment in an instagram post. And while that pace isn’t going anywhere, I don’t want to be driven by it in the same way.
I want to be more intentional about what I take on, who I collaborate with, and how the work comes together.
Our team is strong, talented, and ready to work
I deeply value creativity and collaboration with our clients
I believe in making real images
Supporting our freelance creative community matters to me
At my core, I’m a storyteller, always and forever!
Before social media, I used to blog all of the time. Honestly, I loved it. It’s kind of similar to how I feel about my work in print – it’s more concrete and there for people to enjoy at their own pace. Maybe this is me getting back to my roots or maybe it’s an attempt to hold onto the things I love, but either way, I’m going to try writing a little more again. I’m curious as to how it might help my own creative process and connect with you all a little bit more!
If you’re someone who values that kind of process and wants to create something real, collaborative, and lasting, I’d love to work together!
And if you’re here, it really does mean a lot.
LOVEe
